Injustice: Gods Among Us

Developer: High Voltage Software | Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment | Release Date: Friday, 29 November, 2013

When it comes to beat-em-up fighting games I tend to be something of a button basher. Struggle to get any kind of workable combo’s though I still enjoyed Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers and Tekken. Tekken has always been my favourite fighting game until now….

Injustice: Gods Among Us is a beat-em-up which is easy to get into from the get go. Combos and special moves flow effortlessly and the games characters are for obvious reasons a lot of fun to control. Creating matchups with Batman vs Superman, The Joker vs Batman, Harley Quinn vs Cat Woman it’s all fun.

With regard to every fighting game before Injustice the story modes were boring to the point where I would just play single matchups of my choosing but the Injustice story mode is brilliant. It’s like being part of a movie where the characters intertwine within the story providing plenty of varying match-ups. Skipping cut-scenes almost feels like a sin as it’s so well crafted.

The graphics are impressive, crisp like you’d expect by today’s standards but the interacting with the props and background during fights really adds to the fun. Slam a car onto The Joker’s head or smash the glass to Aquaman’s throne room to generate heavy gushing water. Each map has it’s own unique environment and props to utilize.

Each character has their own special abilities though none of them seem overpowered compared to the next. My personal favourite is “The Joker” I really enjoyed utilizing his abilities such as crowbar hits, laughing gas, chattering teeth etc. The Joker is full of humour so it’s a joy to control him. It has to be said though that trying all of the characters was fun. None of them were boring and each had something special to bring to the fight.
